Cara Kuiper and Gráinne Yeats

Irishgourmet.ie • Agent: Cara Kuiper • Territory: Create Your Own

Why does personalization feel impersonal?

Most businesses offer customization. Build your own. Choose your items. The promise is personal choice. The reality often feels mechanical. Click options. Add to basket. Nothing rooted in tradition or quality. Nothing connecting to heritage or craft.

The problem isn't offering choice. The problem is how choice gets presented. As transaction rather than curation.

Cara Kuiper represents different approach. Where personal choice connects to Irish heritage. Where selection involves warmth and emotional connection. Where customization reflects care and craft.

For this agent, we chose Gráinne Yeats, an Irish harpist, singer and historian who dedicated her life to reviving the traditional wire-strung Irish harp.

Gráinne Yeats was born Gráinne Ní Éigeartaigh in Dublin in 1925. Her parents were steeped in Irish politics and traditional culture—her father was member of IRB Supreme Council and became secretary of Department of Post and Telegraphs. She was raised bilingually with Irish as her first language.

She graduated with history degree from Trinity College Dublin, then studied piano, voice and harp at Royal Irish Academy of Music.

In 1960s Ireland, the traditional wire-strung harp had died out. Yeats was determined to revive this ancient instrument. After others failed, she found American harp-maker Jay Witcher, who made her a seventeenth-century style replica. He revived the making. She revived the playing.

In 1960 she co-founded Cairde na Cruite ('Friends of the Harp') to restore "the Irish harp, symbol of ancient culture, to its place of honour."

Her seminal work was album "Féile na gCruitirí Béal Feirste 1792," featuring traditional tunes from the 1792 Belfast Harpers' Festival. This reintroduced many airs into contemporary harpers' repertoire.

She researched Irish harper-composers extensively, writing the entry on Turlough Carolan for New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians and authoring "The Harp of Ireland" (1992).

Her voice was described as "pure," her "artistry loving." She performed internationally across Europe, North America, Japan, Russia, India and Australia. After fifty years dedicated to Irish harping, she oversaw Ireland hosting the World Harp Congress for the first time. She died in Dublin in 2013.

Why Gráinne Yeats for Cara Kuiper?

Because Yeats's traditional, expressive, dedicated personality translates into how Create Your Own should function—reinforcing values behind personalization.

Traditional: Yeats devoted her life to Irish musical heritage. She revived ancient wire-strung harp. She researched harper-composers. She recorded traditional tunes from 1792 festival. Her work connected present to past.

Cara Kuiper applies this same traditional thinking. When customers build custom hampers, they're connecting to Irish heritage and authenticity. Every item should carry genuine Irish provenance. Every selection roots personal choice in cultural continuity.

This becomes traditional product curation: items connected to Irish craft traditions, artisan producers using traditional methods, foods rooted in Irish culinary heritage.

The traditional personality ensures Create Your Own reinforces Irish brand identity. Personal customization strengthens connection to heritage.

Expressive: Yeats was singer and harpist. Her voice was "pure," her artistry "loving." Her music was "effortlessly communicative." Expression wasn't just performance—it was warmth in teaching, generosity in sharing knowledge, passion in advocating.

Cara Kuiper brings this same expressive quality. The experience shouldn't feel mechanical. It should convey warmth and emotional connection. Customers should feel supported in choosing.

This becomes expressive interface design: presentation communicating care. Product descriptions conveying story and significance. Selection process feeling warm rather than clinical.

The expressive personality shapes how customization communicates value. Not just listing features but expressing what makes each item special.

Dedicated: Yeats spent fifty years reviving Irish harp. She searched persistently for harp-maker after others failed. She conducted extensive research. She taught generations. Her dedication was total—lifetime commitment to cultural preservation.

Cara Kuiper creates Create Your Own with this same dedication. Every product available has been carefully evaluated. Every combination considered. Every detail attended to with craft rather than convenience.

This becomes dedicated product selection: maintaining high standards for what qualifies. Supporting message that personal choice is rooted in quality and cultural continuity.

The dedicated personality guarantees Create Your Own doesn't compromise standards for customization's sake.
